The ocean view is absolutely breathtaking and has been the subject of catalog photo shoots, book and magazine covers (Down East Magazine), numerous articles, calendars, and countless weddings. And yet, the atmosphere is unpretentious, warm, and welcoming – everything a coastal Maine inn should be.

Grey Havens has frequently been referred to as a ‘castle-by-the-sea’ with its two tall round turrets. Its imposing majesty on the Maine coastline is so proud and clear that the inn is often used as a navigational aid by sailors and local lobstermen. Facing East, the sunrises are truly inspiring – for the early risers among you – and the full moon radiates and shimmers across the water. Our Maine coastal inn is a place of relaxation, of peace away from modern distractions such as phones and television.

 Guests come here to sit, to rejuvenate, to read, and, above all, to escape. There is nowhere quite like it. There is a deep water dock and two deep moorings, well sheltered even during the worst winter storms.

Maine Charm with Ocean Views

Entry from the porch brings you into the foyer with the grand living and dining rooms to each side.  A massive stone fireplace in the living room serves as a natural gathering place for guests, whether they choose to relax in a cozy chair and read or enjoy the view through the large window looking onto the porch and ocean beyond. The view from the dining room is just as special.

A beautiful open stairway brings you to the second and third floors, where our guest rooms are located, all with private baths. The four-round turret rooms are truly romantic with 270-degree panoramic ocean views. Our Sunrise Suite has its

 own large balcony, a quiet haven within the Havens.  Sit out here on a summer’s night and you’re sure to be late for bed!  All rooms, except our Cottage room, have full or limited ocean views. See all of our rooms here.

A Quiet Retreat with Plenty to Do Nearby

Just 1.5 miles past Grey Havens the road dead-ends at the 550 acre Reid State Park, a Maine coast state park with its splendid ‘mile beach’, crashing surf, a natural lagoon, sand dunes and wooded trails. This is wild countryside, deer and turkey abound, and moose are occasionally seen – deer tracks criss-cross the winter garden at Grey Havens.

The peaceful escape of Grey Havens Inn is just one hour’s drive from the international airport at Portland, and two and a half hours from Boston.

The nearby local town of Bath is a quaint old ship-building city with a thriving downtown, many fine restaurants, and the Maine Maritime Museum. The popular coastal towns of Boothbay Harbor and Camden are only a skip up the coast – by car or boat!
