How to See These Beautiful Lighthouses on the Maine Coast Right Up the Road from Grey Havens Inn

1. Seguin Island Light Station

The light station on Seguin Island features one of the only towers in the area that visitors can tour! South of Georgetown and 2.5 miles offshore, Seguin Island can be reached by boat or ferry. Still active today, the light station holds a rich history dating back to 1786. When you visit the light station, you can tour the tower, learn about the light station’s intriguing past, and see beautiful views of the river. During your trip, be sure to visit the island’s shop as well!

2. Squirrel Point Light

Squirrel Point Light is one of four navigational aids dating back to 1895 along the Kennebec River’s stretch from the Atlantic Ocean to Bath, Maine. The U.S. Coast Guard owns Squirrel Point site, and it granted an indefinite license to Citizens for Squirrel Point to “provide access to the site for the educational benefit of the public and maritime industry.” The scenic lighthouse tower is not open to the public, but you can freely explore the surrounding grounds! The lighthouse is located on Arrowsic Island in Maine, approximately 30 minutes from Georgetown. Visit this page for directions.

3. Doubling Point Lighthouse

Doubling Point Light Station in Arrowsic, Maine, was built in 1898 to serve as another one of the four stations along the Kennebec River. The light provided protection for ships and boats by warning them about two treacherous angles along the river. Today, the grounds surrounding the beautiful lighthouse can be explored; however, the lighthouse itself and keeper’s house are not open to the public. Although somewhat tricky to reach, the views are definitely worth it! Visit the Doubling Point website for directions.
