Enjoy the Best Beaches in Maine

Visit Reid State Park

While not technically in Bath, Reid State Park is still an important beach to mention. Reid State Park is just a five-minute drive from Grey Havens Inn and features some gorgeous stretches of beach. The names of the beaches are easy to remember; the two most popular spots are Mile Beach and Half Mile Beach. Reid State Park also has some wonderful hiking trails that wind through the lush woodlands and a lookout point. This point is located at the top of Griffith Head, a rocky headland which overlooks the park. You’ll be able to see several islands off the coast of Maine, as well as the lighthouses on Seguin Island.

Explore Popham Beach State Park

Located 15 minutes from downtown Bath, Popham Beach State Park is one of the more popular beaches in the region. It’s located about 30 minutes from Grey Havens Inn and is in operation from April 15 to October 30. Popham Beach stretches out for a total of three miles and features some sandbars that, when it’s low tide, allow visitors to walk over to different islands. Just keep an eye out for the incoming waves so that you don’t get stranded!

Pemaquid Beach

Located in New Harbor, Pemaquid Beach is about an hour away from Grey Havens Inn and is a fantastic place to visit if you’re planning on taking a day trip during your vacation. This beach is open from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend. The entrance fee to the parks for adults is just $4 so this site is certainly worth the visit!

Which Beach to Visit?

While all of these beaches are beautiful, there are some pros and cons to the locations. These beaches are popular swimming and surfing spots and both feature picnic areas, trails, and showers for rinsing off any lingering sand. Pemaquid Beach also has these amenities, though the distance makes it a less appealing option if you’re not already in the area. Reid State Park’s beaches are much smaller than Popham Beach State Park. However, Popham Beach is also the more popular option, meaning that is may be more crowded. Also, Reid State Park is much closer to the most beautiful accommodations in Mid-Coast Maine: Grey Havens Inn!
