About the Gardens

The creation of the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens began in 1991 when a group of Maine residents realized that New England needed a botanical garden. In 1996, the group purchased 128 acres of land on the tidal shoreland of Boothbay. After years of planning and building, the area celebrated the grand opening of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens on June 13, 2007.

Today, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens comprises 295 acres which can be explored on foot or through the virtual map. With more than 100,000 visitors each year, the garden welcomes guests of all ages to explore its beautiful grounds, experience its events, and see its wonderful art and exhibits.

Events at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

From garden tastings and summer teas to butterfly investigations and bee tours, there’s something for everyone at the botanical gardens. One of the newest events, the Caterpillar Lab features functioning caterpillar rearing, research, photography, filming, and education. Hours, Admission, & Directions

The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is open from April 15th through October 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors (65+), $8 for children ages 3-17, and free for children 3 years old and younger. Check the website for seasonal hours, group rates, and directions.
